We've all heard the expression "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Well, at Spyderco it doesn't quite work that way as they are constantly improving their products. It's so much a part of their corporate culture that they've coined a term for it: C.Q.I., which is an acronym for "Constant Quality Improvement. If Spyderco can refine or improve on the ergonomics of a design, or a way to get more cutting performance from one of their knives, change it they do!
The last major "overhaul" of the Para Military pattern was back in 2010. At that time they narrowed the profile of the handle, making it more comfortable in the hand as well as the pocket. They kept the CPM-S30V blade steel, but thinned the profile a bit and increased the blade length. They also added additional jimping to the spine and finger choil for better user control. The blade is coated in non-reflective DLC (Diamond-Like Coating). The pocket clip and other components are also black coated to inhibit reflective qualities.
